This piece is designed as 'flexible' music, which can be played on any combination of instruments. For example, the trble part might be a flute or a violin, the middle part might be a viola or a clarinet, with a cello or bassoon taking the bass part.

It is a strict canon, with each part echoing the previous part at an interval of two bars.
