St John's Chorale, choir of St John's church, Canberra is looking for more voices! |
Our program:
On two Sundays of every month, we sing either a Choral Mattins, including the Canticles (Venite, Te Deum, Benedictus), or a Choral Eucharist, which includes a mass setting (Kyrie, Sanctus, Benedictus, Agnus Dei, Gloria).
On the third Sunday of the month, we also sing a Choral Evensong, with settings of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis
An anthem is sung at each service, and, of course, the appointed Psalms and Responses, all of which are conducted in the inspired, traditional language of the Book of Common Prayer.
The music:
True to the Anglican choral tradition, the music we select is often by English composers, such as Tallis or Howells. But we also include works from the wider European heritage, from Palestrina to more recent times.
So, how's your voice?
If you happen to live in Canberra, Australia and find such music enjoyable and uplifting, please consider joining us!
We're not looking for solo voices - in fact strong solo voices do not always blend so well with a choir!
The main requirement is that you are reasonably competent at reading music, and can sing reasonably well in tune!
All voices welcome: Sopranos, Altos, Tenors or Basses.
